Synergy between Microwave and Infra-red
Members of the ships4SST project have begun to investigate the synergy between microwave (MW) and Infra-red (IR) data results. For example, ISFRN data could be used to link the IR and PMW validation results from projects such as the Copernicus Imaging Microwave Radiometer (CIMR) mission, through an assessment of the contribution from the spatial variability related to the different footprints. The observational characteristics of the ship mounted radiometers are well suited for this study.
Examples of the validation of the AMSR and IASI instruments were shown at the 2021 CIMR meeting. The presentation made by the FRM4SST Science leader can be found on our documents webpage. Recommendations and guidance could then be provided towards future validation strategies and campaigns for the CIMR instrument.
The team have also produced a document discussing the known approaches to the traceable validation of CIMR SST products based on objectives and requirements from the CIMR Mission Requirements Document. Full details can be found in the document here.
